ClosureFast™
The endovenous radiofrequency therapy/Radiofrequency ablation using the ClosureFast™ method by Medtronic is a minimally invasive, thermal catheter-based procedure for the treatment of varicose veins.
Thermal vein treatment through radiofrequency or laser therapy is the global gold standard for the treatment of varicose vein disease.
In the surgical setting, a closure catheter is inserted into the varicose vein through ultrasound-guided puncture of the defective main vein under local anaesthesia. The catheter is positioned sonographically at the crossing point, where the vein transitions to the deep venous system.
The varicose vein is surrounded by a special solution called tumescent solution, which is injected to protect the surrounding tissues (skin, subcutaneous tissue, connective tissue, muscles, lymphatic vessels, nerves, fat tissue, arteries) from thermal damage.
The radiofrequency therapy is standardized.
The ClosureFast™ catheter evenly and repeatedly heats a 7 cm section of the vein in intervals of 20 seconds. The temperature never exceeds 120°C. This results in a homogeneous, section-by-section treatment of the defective main vein, causing the desired thermal damage to the vein wall, where the collagen fibres contract (see image), collapse, and the vein closes, eventually being broken down by the body. The treatment is almost painless.
The ClosureFast™ therapy results in fewer bruises than a traditional stripping operation, while providing excellent cosmetic and therapeutic outcomes.
We are certified experts in the use of the ClosureFast™ procedure.
